چکیده

Optical bistability and dynamic instability are experimentally observed and studied in a system consisting of three-level L-type rubidium atoms in an optical ring cavity. The bistable behavior and self-pulsing frequency are experimentally manipulated by changing the controlling and cavity field parameters ~power and frequency!. These nonlinear effects are influenced by the enhanced Kerr nonlinearity due to atomic coherence in such a system.

Dynamical hysteresis in a three-level atomic system.

We have experimentally investigated dynamical hysteresis behavior by changing the sweeping frequency of the cavity input field in the optical bistability of rubidium atoms (in a three-level atomic-type configuration) inside an optical cavity. The shape, width (or area), and direction of the hysteresis cycle are sensitive functions of the sweeping frequency for such an optical bistable system.

Controlling dynamic instability of three-level atoms inside an optical ring cavity

Dynamic instability in the transmission field of an optical ring cavity containing three-level L-type rubidium atoms is studied in detail both experimentally and theoretically. The onset and periodicity of such dynamic oscillations in the cavity field can be controlled by the experimental parameters, such as intensity and frequency detuning of the coupling field and/or cavity field. Such nonlin...

Optical Nonlinear Dynamics with cold atoms in a cavity

This paper presents the nonlinear dynamics of laser cooled and trapped cesium atoms placed inside an optical cavity and interacting with a probe light beam slightly detuned from the 6S1/2F = 4 to 6P3/2F = 5 transition. The system exhibits very strong bistability and instabilities. The origin of the latter is found to be a competition between optical pumping and non-linearities due to saturation...

Controlling optical bistability in a three-level atomic system

We have experimentally studied the optical bistable behavior in an optical ring cavity filled with a collection of three-level L-type rubidium atoms, interacting with two collinearly propagating laser beams. The bistability so observed is very sensitive to the induced atomic coherence in this electromagnetically induced transparency system or consequently to the altered nonlinearity in the syst...

Three-level atoms inside a degenerate optical parametric oscillator: Steady-state behaviors

We study a composite system consisting of N three-level L-type atoms and a degenerate optical parametric oscillator ~DOPO!. The standard DOPO threshold is modified by the presence of the three-level atoms. Bistability ~in the intracavity field intensity versus pumping intensity for the DOPO! appears for certain atomic detunings and coupling field strengths between the intracavity field and one ...
